Long-term Investors for People’s Health A programme aiming to tackle the social, economic and environmental factors vital to ensuring a healthier society

Key Points

  • The Health Foundation is pleased to support ShareAction’s Long-term Investors for People’s Health (LIPH) programme.

  • The programme will receive transitional support from the Health Foundation until March 2022, in addition to support from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity.

The Long-term Investors for People’s Health programme supports businesses and investors to consider health – and the social factors that drive it – within their decision-making processes. It seeks to drive up investment standards to narrow the health inequalities that we see today.

In the first phase of the programme, ShareAction has developed a new framework to help investors understand the impact of their portfolios on health.

Aims

ShareAction sets out that the Long-term Investors for People’s Health programme will:

  • harness the combined influence of a global coalition of committed investors
  • build a clear understanding of what good looks like on health from companies and their investors, how they can achieve this, what the risks of inaction areas well as the opportunities of action
  • drive company transparency and disclosure to enable investors to hold them to account for delivery
  • lead the public policy debate about how investors are a lever in tackling commercial determinants of health.
