Sarah Ruane Strategic Lead - Health
Organisation: Sport England
Sarah Ruane is a GenerationQ Fellow and Strategic Lead for Inequalities and Health at Sport England.
Sarah joined Sport England in 2016 and provides direction and leadership to the health and inequalities agenda. She cultivates strategic partnerships which can help positively change the culture, systems, and policy that play a role in reducing inactivity and improving the nation's health and wellbeing.
Sarah began her career in local government and has held various roles in health improvement and leisure services. Her last role was Head of Preventative Health and Leisure, which included developing and leading a new strategy, team and services, delivering a £30m transformation and capital investment programme, and developing leisure and community assets which improve residents’ lives and are financially sustainable.
In her current role, Sarah is aiming to strengthen Sport England’s consideration of quality improvement as a route to supporting system and sector-level improvements. Through GenerationQ, she believes she will gain the skills and knowledge needed to lead this.
'I am particularly interested in absorbing as much as I can and exploring how I can apply it within my own context in a national role. I would welcome the opportunity to learn from other senior leaders and look forward to contributing too, offering my experience in delivering change through the lens of population and public health.'
