COVID-19 impact inquiry
Auriol Miller

Auriol Miller is the Director of the Institute of Welsh Affairs (IWA).

Auriol Miller is the Director of the Institute of Welsh Affairs (IWA), Wales’ leading independent think tank.  It provides a politically independent platform for robust comment and debate on both reserved and devolved issues affecting Wales, and undertakes its own research and policy work focussing on democracy, public services and a clean, green and fair economy.

Prior to joining the IWA in late 2016 Auriol ran Cymorth Cymru, the umbrella body for providers of homelessness, housing-related support and social care services in Wales. Auriol also has nearly 20 years’ experience in international development, including leadership roles for major international NGOs in Burundi, DR Congo, Sudan and Russia.  In each country she led coalitions of partners to influence governments on policy and practice, with a clear focus on the protection of rights of vulnerable and excluded people, and addressing inequalities.

Auriol holds an MSc in Development Studies from SOAS (London University), while her first degree was in Modern Languages from Somerville College, Oxford.  She is a Welsh learner and joined the Labour party in late 2019.
